What is JEMJ?

It is an encounter where young people can participate alongside other youth in acts of prayer, catechesis, Eucharistic evangelization workshops, testimonies… and deepen their love and knowledge of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, guided by Our Lady.

Why JEMJ?

In a world that forgets and rejects God, we wish to turn to the Lord, pleading with Him as the disciples on the road to Emmaus did: «Stay with us, Lord!» (Lk 24:29).

A group of young Spanish laypeople, together with their pastors, felt strongly compelled to respond to the growing forgetfulness and lack of faith spreading rapidly due to the onslaught of secularization and the confusion reigning among the faithful. They learned of the initiative launched in the United States, where certain Catholic bishops, observing the decline in Mass attendance and the apparent lack of faith in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, expressed the need to revive Eucharistic faith on a national level. Their response was the National Eucharistic Revival, launched by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) on June 19, 2022, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This three-year initiative aims to deepen faith in the Eucharist through formation and Eucharistic activities such as adoration and processions.

The hearts of these Spanish laypeople were set ablaze with the desire to lead young people to discover Jesus’ immense love in the Eucharist, to walk strongly in the Christian life, and to seek fulfillment not in broken cisterns but in the Fountain of Living Water. And who better than Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother, to accompany us to an encounter with Jesus and to experience the Living God? Thus was born the Youth Marian Eucharistic Encounter (JEMJ), a gathering where young people could participate together in prayer, catechesis, Eucharistic evangelization workshops, testimonies… and deepen their love and knowledge of Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist.
